About Me
change a room color without repainting

I love playing with colors in my home. Changing the color in my living room used to be a big job. I used to have to repaint the entire room to change the color scheme but have since learned to keep the walls and flooring neutral. Using accent colors in the room can make it very easy to change the overall appearance of the room without going to the expense or work of repainting. My blog will show you what you can do to change the color in your rooms without having to go through the process of painting the entire room.

Tips For Using Permanent Botanicals As Home Decor

Martin Horton

Fresh flowers are expensive and die relatively quickly, not allowing you to recoup your investment. On the other hand, silk flowers, or permanent botanicals, are an excellent way to add a floral touch to your home without having to worry about constantly replacing and paying for new flowers. Here are some tips for incorporating permanent botanicals into your home decorating scheme.

1. Put Out Vases

One option is to purchase or create your own bouquets of permanent botanicals that you can put in vases and leave around the house. If you are going to be putting the bouquet in the middle of a dining room table or other large table, then you want the bouquet to be large enough to not look absurdly undersized in the middle of a grand table, but you also want to make sure that people sitting across the table can see one another. Aim to have the bouquet hit just beneath the nose of the average person who is sitting down.

For smaller side tables, use smaller vases with flowers that are all a similar color. Since the bases are not going to be the focal point of the room and are going to be used to help enhance the existing decor, you should try to make all of the flowers in the vase roughly the same color and have the vase be a similar color to furniture that is already in the room. This will allow you to enhance the existing decor, rather than overtake it.

2. Put Out a Wreath

Another option for using permanent botanicals in your home decor is to make a wreath  to hang on the outside of your house on your front door, as well as smaller ones to hang on interior doors. This will allow you to brighten up a flat, boring plane. Consider the color of your house or the colors that are already in a room in order to choose the types of permanent botanicals that are going to make up the wreath that you display there.

3. Include Other Items

Stores that make permanent botanicals also make permanent berry stems, nuts, and leaves that you can have added to your arrangements and bouquets. This will allow you to customize them for the seasons, as well as customize them for each room. For example, if you are planning on putting permanent botanicals in your kitchen, make sure that you add berries, a type of food, to the botanicals in order to give them a stronger sense of fitting in with the theme of the room.
